Comparison of Topical Silymarin with Hydroquinone in the Treatment of Melasma

Objective: To compare the efficacy and safety of topical silymarin 0.7% with hydroquinone 4% in treatment melasma.
 Place Duration: This Randomized Controlled Trial was conducted at dermatology OPD Akbar Niazi Teaching Hospital, Bara Kahu, Islamabad, a period one year from April 2020 to 2021.
 Patients Methods: Female patients having melasma were included study. The severity assessed using MASI score. Group A treated cream group B cream. Treatment given for 3 months followed up next observe relapse. Clinical terms percent reduction score baseline.
 Results: mean age (Silymarin 0.7%) 35.13 ± 3.87 (Hydroquinone 4%) 34.16 3.90. Epidermal type most common (76.8% vs 62.5%) both groups. There no significant (p-value < 0.05) difference between groups after two but Hydroquinone (10.59 5.74) become significantly less than Silymarin (8.20 4.41) months. Similar > therapeutic response observed it better three treatment. Significantly, (P-value higher adverse effects detected hydroquinone. recurrence rate satisfaction groups.
